A Harvest Moon and some Moon Lore
I finished my newest Harvest Moon Ornament. His smile is slightly menacing and he is full of craters. If you'd like to see more of him he's hanging out here.
The Harvest Moon is the Moon which occurs closest to the Autumn Equinox. A rare occurrence is when it appears in October which only once every three years. The Harvest Moon appears brighter at this time allowing farmers more harvest time. The color of the Harvest Moon is magical. The Moon itself does not change. It's the air which it passes through containing dirt, dust and pollen which gives it an orange glow. Later on as the Moon rises high in the sky the color then changes to a golden yellow. A perfect color to allow you to see a Witch flying by!

I have a question for you. We get red moons with a harvest moon appearance here that aren't always in autumn. I thought that all red moons were harvest moons. What are red moons that don't occur in the autumn?
Hi Jessica you know I'll have to look that up. I'm not sure! :)
