Wishing A Very Happy Halloween!

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes! I think this year we are going as the swine flu family. Little piggy noses and pink piggy ears are in order. Things are getting better and a few of us my make it out tonight!

I hope everyone has a very Happy and Magical Halloween! I'm off to roast up those seeds! Yummy!

I always wanted to be a Witch!

I begged and begged for this mask. I got my way the year was 1977. I wore my mother's dress and reddish wig. I'd have to say this was my favorite costume as a child. Witch fits me well even today.
I volunteered in my son's class today. Fun Halloween Party! Lots of kids out sick and my youngest and oldest have the flu. We may have to trick or treat at home this year.

When I was young tonight was known as Devil's Night. I'm not sure if kids still go out and toilet paper trees, egg cars and play ding dong dooeee. A favorite memory I have is one of my father. He really got into Devils Night. Not playing pranks but protecting our home. He would sit in our front yard which was full of pines. This made us an ideal target for tp. He would sit in the dark and sneak up on kids. He'd say in a low scary voice "I wouldn't do that if I were you". Sometimes he would us the hose and spray kids with water. So if any of you are planning some Devil's Night pranks keep that in mind!

Halloween Goodies for a Halloween Friend!

This post is a virtual gift for my friend Halloween Spirit! She is having trouble finding Halloween Treats in the stores. I'm sending you these. I am also sending you the calories and the weight we may gain from eating all of these!

Don't you just love what they have done to Aunt Millie! Love her wicked alter ego! The Captain Crunch turns the milk green and the kids are over eating that. The Franken Berry they only liked the fake pink marshmallows. The cookies and the muffins were a hit!

Two Moons

Remembering those who came before

This is a photo of my Great Grandmother and Grandfather. Valentine and Julia were married in Poland on October 28th 1916. Very often marriages took place before winter in the area where they came from. That makes sense to have someone to go through the winter with to keep you warm!

I am fascinated by this photo because of my Grandmother's wedding gown. There are herbs and foliage sew into her gown. I have never seen anything like it before. My Great Aunts told me rosemary was used and other herbs. They are hard to make out from the photo. Rosemary for remembrance. So your husband would not wander he would remember his love. Good idea in my opinion. Anyway, I thought I'd share this and if anyone has a similar photo of family I'd love to here all about it.

Valentine and Julia went on to have five children. My Grandmother being one of them. I never got a chance to meet them. Great Grandmother lives on through me in the recipes that have been handed down to me. My sons share some similar features with my Great Grandfather Valentine. Don't you just love that name it was passed down several times. I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Comical Christmas Candle

No this is not a firecracker! My son asked me when it was going to blow up! He's pretty funny I think. I promise to post some Halloween/ Fall stuff later. :)

Beautiful Fall & Mr. Tree

Oh Christmas Tree why are you so silly? I know too much time in the woods alone! He's now in my etsy shop.

This sugar maple was on fire! I love the gold and red. It also has a touch of orange pink. Amazing! The other tree is a shagbark hickory.

This post is out of order. Why well because I'm super tired. I think we have a mouse in our house. If it was not a mouse then maybe a ghost. Great I love waking up at 4 am! Yikes! Have a great day everyone!

Vampires

I love Vampires! Why? They are shape shifting, blood sucking, eternally young. So here's my nod to the Vampire. This is a photo of my husband and I. Yes we were young. I'd like to say we have retained our eternal youth but that would be a Horrific lie. Enjoy your day everyone. Tonight I will enjoy mine!

A Few Halloween Favorites

The first pic. is of a vintage plastic pumpkin. I know they made Gurley Candles like this. We used to have Gurley Halloween Candles. If I smelled one it would bring back some strong memories. I'll have to check for some on ebay.

The next pic. is some favorite die-cuts they are not vintage. They are Beistle reprints of vintage Halloween. I have these hanging all over. The witches do tend to scare the kids.

The last shot is some older primitive wood do dads I've made. They are scarp wood painted up silly.

The Hickories in our yard are at peak color! I love the golden tones and an added bonus are all the critters that enjoy these nuts. My kids call the nuts eyeballs when the nuts drop they are green.
