Overcoming Fear Of....

Happy Friday the 13th! Paraskevidekatriaphobia fear of Friday the 13th. I do not have a fear of this date. In fact the number 13 is a favorite of mine so for me it's lucky. I am also a fan of the movies! Who doesn't love Jason's mom and Jason! This post is not about Paraskevidekatriaphobia.

Today I would like to explore Chionophobia. This is the abnormal Fear of Snow. Some of you may not suffer from this phobia. You may be lucky and may live in a warm zone where the fearful white stuff does not fall. I say lucky you! I am learning to overcome my fear through understanding and art therapy. I bought this wonderful book by Ken Libbrecht a Field Guide to Snowflakes. This was very helpful. I decided to do some art therapy and to actually make a Snowflake. I know! I was fearful at first but I took the plunge. Through hours of research I was able to learn more about the Snowflake I made. He is a Stellar Dendrites meaning tree like because of his side branches. I'm now proud to say I am no longer afraid. Understanding my Fear and the Art Therapy has helped me so much! I now look forward to the fist Snow and Snowflake! So what are you afraid of? Remember understanding and art therapy could be the cure for you too! Happy Friday the 13th!

Becca - I can honestly say I have never known anyone to be afraid of snow. Falling on my butt on ice, yes. Snow, not so much. ;) But I'm glad you've conquered your fear! AND made an adorable little flake!

I am very afraid of giant waves (like the ones that come with tsunamis). It's funny because I grew up in SoCal and spent summers at the beach. Still, it's a recurring fear. I'm not sure reading a book about them will help! LOL!!! have a great snow-free weekend! xox Pam

I guess that would make me a chionophile??? (lover of snow). Cool info! I love the snowflake--what a cutie!!! Oh, and Friday the 13th has always been a happy and lucky day for me, so I look forward to it. In fact, for the first time in forever, it's cloudy, very chilly, and beautiful here--I think it's cause it's my day!

Who knew? I used to have a fear of crossing bridges, I would panic...I'd have flashbacks! Turns out when I was little, the bridge was icy and my father slid the car and almost went over! Whew! Thanks for sharing the info,

Pam your funny! I don't think reading a book will help you. You need to jump in the waves and play with the ocean. Art therapy might work you could make some surfing skellys!

It's going to be warm this weekend no snow in the forecast! I'm ready though!lol! :) I have fallen on my butt many times it's the ice. Oh no I wonder what the fear of ice is. I think I have that I'll have to look it up! :)

Autumn I'm glad your getting your chilly , cloudy day! A perfect Friday the 13th day! :)

Lisa that is scary! I've never had that happen on a bridge. I have slide, spun around almost rolled over a few times. Oh the joy of winter driving!

Your flake is adorable! And I'm so happy that you can look forward to our snowy season now!

I've got that snowflake book just because I think that they are so beautiful, and wanted to learn more about their minute world. They are amazing, aren't they?

Yes! Make some more, just remember, that no two snowflakes are alike! lol

Great advise Suzie! The book is amazing he has other ones out too. We get a lot of snow here. Our driveway becomes the boys sleading hill. They sure love it. Such a joy to watch them!
